Bij zonsopgang starten we bij het Durlaßboden stuwmeer naar Zell am See. Om binnen te komen, laten we de Pinzgau achter ons. Via Krimml en Kaprun bereiken we uiteindelijk Bruck an der Großglocknerstrasse.

Na de Zeller See wordt het langzaam hoogalpien: via de Bruck an der Glocknerstraße gaan we de Großglockner Hochalpenstraße op. Via 17 haarspeldbochten bereiken we het hoogste punt van de tocht, de Hochtor op 2504 m – de langste, zwaarste en meest magische klim van de dag. Altijd in zicht: de 3798 meter hoge Großglockner en de Pasterze, met negen kilometer de grootste gletsjer van Oostenrijk.

Na de snelle afdaling naar Oost-Tirol rollen we verder in zuidelijke richting en na 148 kilometer bereiken we de gemeente Winklern in het Mölltal. Hier smaakt de lucht al naar de zuidelijke Alpen. We pauzeren kort en vullen ons aan met een snack voordat we de Drau vallei inrijden.

Langs de Drau rollen we ontspannen naar Oberdrauburg. Vanaf hier is het opnieuw inspannend; over de Gailberg bereiken we Kötschach.

Vanaf hier kun je diep ademhalen. In de vallei van de Gail voert de route in het beste geval licht heuvelachtig naar het oosten en uiteindelijk naar Hermagor. We verlaten Kapinberg en Göriacher Berg naar het zuiden en bereiken uiteindelijk de Faaksee. Vanaf hier is het slechts een steenworp naar de Wörthersee.
